Festivals

The Riant Theatre’s mission is to provide a nurturing environment to develop new plays and showcase artists and provide opportunities to network and collaborate on new projects.

We do this through 2 of our Festivals:
The Strawberry One-Act Festival, in which plays compete for the title of Best Play of the Season. We accept plays short one-acts with a running time of 15-30 minutes. Plays selected for the festival perform in front of an audience, which casts their votes to determine which plays advance to the Semi-Finals and then the Finals.

At the FINALS a panel of industry professionals that consist of a Literary Agent, a Casting Director, an Agent, a Director and Theatre Producer. This panel will select the Best Play of the Season and will perform at the Awards Ceremony, where awards will be presented for BEST PLAY, BEST DIRECTOR, BEST ACTOR, BEST ACTRESS, BEST SET DESIGN, BEST COSTUMES and BEST VIDEO DIARY.

The playwright of the Best Play will receive a cast prize of $1,500 and a Development Deal to have a play developed by the Riant Theatre. This will be done through a series of reading, workshops and hopefully a staged performance.

And the Strawberry Theatre Festival, which consist of long one-acts with a running time of 40-90 minutes. A panel of Industry Professionals will see the plays in the festival and this panel will judge the plays in all categories and at the Awards Ceremony, awards will be presented for BEST PLAY, BEST DIRECTOR, BEST ACTOR, BEST ACTRESS, BEST SET DESIGN, BEST COSTUMES and BEST VIDEO DIARY.

Musicals are also accepted for both festivals.

The JOCUNDA MUSIC, FILM & THEATRE FESTIVAL, will showcase recording artists, singers and bands of all genres, spoken word artists, comedians, runway shows of fashion designers, screening of films (feature, shorts, animation, documentaries, webseries and music videos), plays, screenplays for our Play and Screenplay Reading Series, and authors (nonfiction, fiction, children books, self-help, cooking, romance, fantasy, etc.)
